CaptionSnap › Save Google Meet captions
How to save Google Meet captions as a transcript on a Mac
Google Meet shows captions during the call. CaptionSnap saves them as a transcript on your Mac, with each speaker's name and time.
Does Google Meet save captions?
Captions in Meet are live: they “only display for the parts of the conversation where you're in the meeting and have captions turned on” (Google Meet Help). Meet's own transcripts come with certain Google Workspace editions and are saved in the meeting organizer's Google Drive (Google Meet Help). “Take notes for me” needs an eligible Workspace edition or Google AI plan, and the organizer must have it (Google Meet Help).
CaptionSnap saves the captions you turn on for yourself. You don't need a paid Workspace or Google AI plan.
Turn on captions in Google Meet
From Google Meet Help:
- On your computer, go to Google Meet.
- Join a meeting.
- At the bottom, hover over Captions and translation, then select Turn on captions.
You can also press c.
Save them with CaptionSnap
- Install CaptionSnap. It lives in your menu bar and starts saving when captions appear.
- Each line is saved with the speaker's name and time, in Chrome, Edge, Arc or Brave. You can read along during the call.
- When the call ends, the transcript is saved on your Mac.
Captions off? CaptionSnap tells you, so you can turn them on.

No paid plan, no bot, no audio recording
Nothing joins the call and no audio is recorded. The transcript is a plain text file in a folder you choose: copy it into an email or a doc, or paste it into any AI tool for a summary.
