CaptionSnap › Save Zoom captions
How to save Zoom captions as a transcript on a Mac
Zoom shows captions during the meeting. CaptionSnap saves them as a transcript on your Mac, with each speaker's name and time.
Does Zoom save captions?
Not by default. Zoom saves a transcript only when the host or an admin turns transcripts on (Zoom Support). CaptionSnap saves the captions you see, as a transcript on your Mac.
Turn on captions in Zoom
From Zoom Support, in the Zoom desktop app:
- Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
- Join a meeting or webinar.
- In the meeting controls toolbar, click Show captions.
- If you don't see Show captions, click More, then Show captions.
In the Zoom web app, click Show Captions in the meeting controls toolbar. The host decides whether captions are available; if the host has restricted who can enable them, you can ask for them to be turned on (Zoom Support).
Save them with CaptionSnap
- Install CaptionSnap. It lives in your menu bar and starts saving when captions appear.
- Each line is saved with the speaker's name and time, in the Zoom app or in Chrome, Edge, Arc and Brave. You can read along during the call.
- When the call ends, the transcript is saved on your Mac.
Captions off? CaptionSnap tells you, so you can turn them on.

No bot, no audio recording
Nothing joins the call and no audio is recorded. The transcript is a plain text file in a folder you choose: copy it into an email or a doc, or paste it into any AI tool for a summary.
